IA-CG.COM - Indian Association for Crystal Growth - About Us

The Indian Association for Crystal Growth (IACG) was founded in the year of 1980 to promote communication among professors, scientists and engineers working in the field of crystal growth.

Total number of members of IACG is now about 650 which includes research fields of theoretical, bulk crystal growth, biological crystallization, industrial crystallization, characterization, advance technology, new materials, nanocrystalline materials, surface and interface, thin film, epitaxial growth, etc.

All the young members of IACG are encouraged to participate and discuss with leading scientists, professors and technologists at every annual meet of National Seminar on Crystal Growth and Applications (NSCGA) which is one of the main activities of IACG.

One of the main objectives of the IACG is to contribute to energy, environment, biomedical and security of human life through technological development of crystal growth.

The IACG is now encouraging the research and development on crystal growth based on current trends of science and technology. Proposals and ideas are always welcome to richen the activities of IACG.

IACG has successfully organized TWENTY-FIVE National Level Crystal Growth seminars, many of them with International Participation.

Crystal Research in India

India has a large crystal growth community. India is one of the key countries to produce a variety of novel and classical crystals at laboratory level which may be upgraded for industrial applications.

100 years ago, Kedareswar Banerjee started his research in the field of crystals with associate of world renewed scientists W. H. Bragg, W. L. Bragg, J. M. Robertson, P. P. Ewald, J. D. Bernal, K. Lonsdale, N. V. Belov and M. Avrami.

Early of 20th century, Indian Nobel laureate Sir. C. V. Raman fully involved in crystal Physics. Following him, R.S. Krishnan, A. R. Varma, D.D.Bhawalkar, Krishnan Lal, H.L Bhat have been taken leadership for the field of crystal growth. In 1980’s, Prof. Ramasamy has seriously taken crystal growth activities in India. In his initiative, Indian association for Crystal growth was formed. Behalf of IACG, More than 100 crystal growth conferences/Workshops are organized in across the India. Now, India has produced more then 2000 crystal growers to across the world.

The technologically important crystals are grown in various national laboratories like CSIR-NPL, BARC, IGCAR, RRCAT, TIFR and Academic Institutions/Universities such as Anna University, KIT, IIT Kanpur, Delhi University, IISc, SSN Institutions, Alagappa University, Bharathiar and Bharathidasan Universities, Periyar University and so many colleges.
